Player Biography

Shikha Pandey's story is one of two disciplined worlds colliding, a decorated career in the Indian Air Force running alongside a stellar decade as a stalwart of India's fast-bowling attack. Often affectionately called 'Shikhipedia' by her teammates for being an all-out cricket geek, her journey is rooted in intellectual rigor and sporting excellence.

Picked up to play for Goa at just 15 years old, she delayed her full domestic debut by a couple of seasons to focus on her education. She earned her degree in Electronics and Electrical Engineering in 2010 before joining the Indian Air Force a year later, eventually rising through the ranks to become a Squadron Leader. Balancing her military career with cricket, she established herself as a formidable right-arm medium-pacer renowned for immaculate seam presentation and the ability to swing the new ball both ways.

Consistent domestic performances for Goa saw her earn a senior international call-up in March 2014, making her T20I debut against Bangladesh and becoming only the second cricketer from Goa to represent India. Later that August, she made her Test and ODI debuts against England. Pandey proved to be an immediate big-match performer, playing a central role with both bat and ball during India’s historic Test victory over England at Wormsley, where she claimed three wickets and scored an unbeaten half-century.

With time, Pandey cemented her place in the national lineup, forming a vital pace partnership alongside legendary fast bowler Jhulan Goswami. She served as an integral core bowler in India's major tournament runs, helping steer the team to the finals of both the 2017 ICC Women's Cricket World Cup and the 2020 T20 World Cup. Among her many international highlights, her delivery to bowl Alyssa Healy at Carrara in 2021 remains widely cited as one of the finest seam-bowling deliveries in women's cricket history.

After being left out of the national setup for a stretch, Pandey staged a resounding comeback in early 2023 when she was recalled to India's squad for the ICC Women's T20 World Cup in South Africa. As younger talent eventually shifted the national team's transition, her career seamlessly expanded into global franchise cricket, where her experience, new-ball control, and death-bowling accuracy made her a highly sought-after commodity.

Away from the international spotlight, Pandey built an impressive franchise career across world leagues, representing Trinbago Knight Riders in the Women's CPL, Brisbane Heat in the WBBL, and Canterbury Magicians in New Zealand. In the Women's Premier League, she spearheaded the new-ball attack for Delhi Capitals during the league's inaugural seasons, consistently finishing among the tournament's top wicket-takers with 30 wickets in 27 matches and helping lead the side to back-to-back WPL finals.

That demand for her veteran expertise culminated ahead of the WPL 2026 season: at the auction, UP Warriorz secured her services for a landmark INR 2.4 crore following an intense bidding war, underlining the premium placed on her experience and enduring skill.
