FOUR! Khaleel Ahmed to Mitchell Santner. Full toss, outside off stump on the front foot flick, well timed in the air under control past deep mid wicket for 4 runs, mis-fielded by Dhawan.

That was absolute carnage from start to finish. New Zealand have compiled an enormous total of 219/6 at Westpac Stadium on the back of a career best 84 from Tim Seifert. The wicketkeeper-batsman played all sorts of strokes, conventional and otherwise, in an eye-catching knock including six huge sixes. There were handy contributions from a few others to put the Black Caps in the driving seat between innings. India weren't at their best in the field or with the ball, but conditions are ideal for batsmen so you can't dismiss their chances of chasing this down.

  • 19.5

Khaleel Ahmed to Scott Kuggeleijn. Off cutter short, outside off stump on the back foot pulling, to deep mid wicket for 1 run, fielded by Pandya.

  • 19.4

FOUR! Khaleel Ahmed to Scott Kuggeleijn. Off cutter back of a length, outside off stump on the front foot driving, well timed past deep extra cover for 4 runs. Muscled through extra cover, the long off fielder is helpless as it scorches the turf to beat him to the rope.

  • 19.3

Khaleel Ahmed to Mitchell Santner. Short, outside off stump on the back foot pulling, to long off for 1 run, fielded by Shankar.

  • 19.2

  • 18.6

SIX! Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Scott Kuggeleijn. Half volley, wide outside off stump moves in front driving, well timed in the air under control over deep cover for 6 runs. Hammered over cover, the sixes continue to rain down in Wellington. Kuggeleijn is playing a great little cameo for the hosts.

  • 18.6

Wide Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Scott Kuggeleijn. Length ball, to leg moves in front flick, Play and Miss (Leg Side) to wicketkeeper for 1 run, fielded by Dhoni.

  • 18.5

FOUR! Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Scott Kuggeleijn. Half volley, wide outside off stump moves in front Steer, well timed past third man for 4 runs. More runs to third man, however this time intentionally played by the batsman. Kuggeleijn opened the face at the perfect moment to guide it into the gap.

  • 18.4

Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Scott Kuggeleijn. Leg cutter length ball, wide outside off stump moves in front driving, missed to wicketkeeper for no runs, fielded by Dhoni.

  • 18.3

FOUR! Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Scott Kuggeleijn. Back of a length, wide outside off stump moves in front cutting, top edge in the air uncontrolled past third man for 4 runs. Slashed, third man is up in the circle so anything off the edge will zip quickly to the fence. The bowler feels hard done by but such is T20 cricket.

  • 18.2

Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Mitchell Santner. Slower length ball, outside off stump moves in front pushing, to point for 1 run, fielded by Sharma.

  • 18.1

OUT! Caught. Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Ross Taylor. Leg cutter back of a length, wide outside off stump moves in front pulling, top edge in the air uncontrolled to short fine leg, by Ahmed. Clever bowling, Bhuvi ran his fingers across the ball so it was slightly slower and bounced up more from the deck. Taylor swiped wildly and Khaleel just about managed to cling on after calling for it.

  • 18.1

    ಭುವನೇಶ್ವರ್ ಕುಮಾರ್ c Tim Seifert b Lockie Ferguson 1 (3)

OUT! Caught (Sub). Hardik Pandya to Colin de Grandhomme. Full toss, outside off stump on the front foot Slog, mis-timed in the air uncontrolled to deep square leg. There is some serious airtime on this as de Grandhomme looks to launch it into orbit, the sub fielder holds his nerve to pull off a magnificent catch in the deep. India keep chipping away, it might save them a few runs in these last few deliveries.

  • 17.4

Hardik Pandya to Ross Taylor. Full toss, middle stump moves in front flick, to deep backward square leg for 1 run.

  • 17.3

Hardik Pandya to Ross Taylor. Full toss, outside off stump moves in front pulling, mis-timed in the air uncontrolled to deep mid wicket for 2 runs, dropped catch by Karthik. Oh my word, Karthik has spilled another goober. Get that man some gloves because it seems like he can't catch without them.

  • 17.2

  • 17.1

SIX! Hardik Pandya to Ross Taylor. Length ball, outside off stump moves in front Slog, well timed in the air under control over deep mid wicket for 6 runs. Right in the slot, that's the exact length that Taylor wants it at this stage of the innings and he's never going to miss out.

  • 16.6

  • 16.3

SIX! Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Ross Taylor. Length ball, wide outside off stump moves in front driving, well timed in the air under control over deep cover for 6 runs. There's a man out on the cover boundary, Taylor backs himself to hit it over him and does so with aplomb. Every time New Zealand have lost a wicket, someone else has taken over the responsibility for smashing it into the stands.

  • 16.2

New Zealand have thrashed India by 80 runs in Wellington to take a 1-0 lead in the three match T20I series. The victory was set up by the batting, with Tim Seifert's inventive 84 leading the way for the Black Caps to post a huge total of 219/6. In the eight matches he'd played prior to this evening Seifert had yet to pass 14, but he showed his talent and confidence tonight to vindicate the Kiwis decision to stick with him. It was always going to be tough for the tourists in response with the required rate at a daunting level, and losing both of their openers in the powerplay wasn't the ideal start. The hosts were brilliant with the ball and in the field to never let India back into the contest, with Tim Southee's 3/17 showing the value of experience in the shortest format. India will need a much improved display at Eden Park in Auckland on Friday night to keep the series alive.

OUT! Caught. Tim Southee to MS Dhoni. Short, outside off stump on the back foot pulling, mis-timed in the air uncontrolled to deep backward square leg, by Ferguson. Picks out the man in the deep, India are on the verge of being bowled out now. On a night dominated by the batsmen, Southee has used all his experience to return really impressive bowling figures.

  • 18.4

OUT! Caught. Lockie Ferguson to Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Half volley, outside off stump on the front foot driving, outside edge to wicketkeeper, by Seifert. What a grab, sensational stuff from Seifert. His day just keeps getting better and better. It went low and quickly to his right and he managed to pouch it in the webbing of his right glove. ಕೃಣಾಲ್ ಪಾಂಡ್ಯ c Tim Seifert b Tim Southee 20 (18)

OUT! Caught. Tim Southee to Krunal Pandya. Short, down leg side on the back foot pulling, Gloved in the air uncontrolled to third slip, by Seifert. Beaten for pace by a brutal bouncer, Krunal's resistance is ended by Southee. He never looked comfortable against the short ball tonight and in the end it's caused his downfall. He took his eyes off it which is never a good idea, especially when it's coming at you so quickly.

  • 16.5

Tim Southee to MS Dhoni. Length ball, off stump down the track working, to deep mid wicket for 1 run, fielded by Santner.

  • 16.4

FOUR! Tim Southee to MS Dhoni. Short, outside off stump down the track cutting, well timed in the air under control past deep backward point for 4 runs. Such a cool and casual stroke by Dhoni, trusting his timing to cream the ball over point. It looks like this will be too little too late for India however.

  • 16.2

  • 16.1

FOUR! Tim Southee to MS Dhoni. Slower ball short, outside off stump down the track pulling, mis-timed in the air uncontrolled past deep square leg for 4 runs, mis-fielded by Ferguson. • 15.2
