We are back for the chase! The players are already out in the middle now. Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma are the two openers for India Women. Marufa Akter to start proceedings with the ball. Here we go..

  • .

    ... THE RUN CHASE ...

  • .

A mixed day in the field - India Women had a mixed outing in the field, dropping four catches inside the first five overs and conceding 10 extras in total, allowing Bangladesh a few opportunities to build partnerships. However, the bowlers did an excellent job of keeping the scoring in check at the death. Radha Yadav led the way with a fine three-wicket haul, while Renuka Singh provided the early breakthrough and Nandni Sharma chipped in with a wicket. Sree Charani then produced an excellent double-wicket final over, a spell that also saw her become India's highest wicket-taker in a single Women's T20 World Cup. Bangladesh defended 123 against Pakistan Women earlier in the tournament, but can they do it again with 136 on the board? A fascinating chase awaits.

  • .

A measured effort with the bat - Despite losing an early wicket, Bangladesh Women never pressed the panic button. Juairiya Ferdous and Sobhana Mostary steadied the innings beautifully with a crucial 51-run partnership, laying the foundation for a competitive total. Captain Nigar Sultana then kept the momentum going with a fluent 32 off 27 deliveries, while Shorna Akter and Ritu Moni provided some late fireworks. However, Bangladesh may feel they left a few runs out there, with the final five overs not quite yielding the finish they would have hoped for.

  • .

Tigresses throw down the gauntlet - Bangladesh Women have given themselves a real chance with a spirited batting effort, posting 136/8, their highest-ever total batting first in a Women's T20 World Cup. They were smart with their shot selection and made India Women work hard in the field, with the latter guilty of several costly errors. Crucially, Sree Charani's superb final over, which yielded just three runs and two wickets, may yet prove decisive.

  • 19.6

A fumble on the final ball and that sums up India's effort in the field today. Bangladesh finish on 136/8. Low full toss, on off. Marufa Akter makes a bit of room and drills it to extra cover. It goes on the bounce to Harmanpreet Kaur, but she lets it through. It goes behind, and the batters come back for the second run.

  • .

Who will face the last ball of the innings? It will be Marufa Akter.

  • 19.5
Nahida Akter c Jemimah Rodrigues b Sree Charani 0 (2)

OUT! IN THE AIR AND GONE! High but not long enough. Darted in again by Charani, full and on middle. Nahida Akter gives the bowler the charge, looking to go down the ground. She gets the height but not the distance. It is skied to long on, where Jemimah Rodrigues settles under it, bends and gobbles it up close to her body.

  • 19.4

Rapped on the pads! The impact looked outside the line there but Harmanpreet Kaur wants to take a chance. Fired in, on a length, around off. Nahida Akter goes for the reverse but misses and gets hit on the pads. As it turns out, the UltraEdge shows a spike when the ball is close to the glove. The on-field call is upheld.

  • .

Nahida Akter walks out to bat now.

  • 19.3
Shorna Akter c Renuka Singh Thakur b Sree Charani 13 (10)

OUT! CAUGHT! 11th wicket in this tournament for Sree Charani. She now has the most wickets for India in a single edition of a Women's T20 World Cup, according to the on-air commentators. Sree goes searching for the yorker again. It comes out as a low full toss, on off. With the field up on the off side, Shorna makes room to go through the in-field. The bat turns in her hand and Shorna slices it straight to cover, where Renuka Singh Thakur takes the catch around her waist.

  • 19.2

In the blockhole in line with the off stump. Shorna makes room and squeezes it out to backward point.

  • 19.1

Very full, around off. Rabeya Khan shuffles across and sweeps it to deep backward square leg for a single.

  • .

Sree Charani to bowl the final over. Can she keep Bangladesh Women under 140 here?

  • 18.6

FOUR! Excellent shot! Tossed up, full and just around off. Shorna Akter backs away a long way, crouches low but manages to reach out and slap it wide of mid off for four more runs.

  • 18.5

OUT! CASTLED! Radha Yadav has her third wicket. Nails the yorker, on middle and leg. Moni is standing a bit outside the crease. She makes room to thrash it through the off side. The ball sneaks under the blade and crashes into the stumps. Bangladesh are 128/6.

  • 18.3

FOUR! In the gap! Floated up, on off, on a length. Moni gets low, reaches out in front and plays the hard sweep through square leg. Nandni Sharma sprints to her left in the deep and dives but in vain.

  • 18.2

Another error. Tossed up, on a good length, on off. Moni advances to go down the ground. Slices it off the outer half towards cover-point, where Smriti Mandhana runs to her right, but the ball drops in front and spins away, allowing Moni to come back for the second run.

  • 18.1

Untidy in the field. Speared in, on a length, on off. Moni tucks it to square leg. Yastika Bhatia gets to the ball from short fine leg but gets into a tangle as she dives and the batters are alert enough to sneak in the second run.

  • .

Radha Yadav to bowl the penultimate over. Also, Bangladesh Women have decided to retire out Sharmin Akhter and bring in Ritu Moni for her boundary-hitting ability.

  • .

Sharmin Akhter has not recovered from the injury suffered and won't be able to participate any more with the bat. As it stands, Sharmin Akhter is retired out.

  • 17.7

Just wide! Across off, on a length. Sharmin Akhter shimmies down the track and slams it back past the bowler. Deepti is caught wrong-footed as she was moving to her right. She sticks out her left hand, but the ball is past her by then. Single taken as Jemimah Rodrigues mops it up at long on.

  • 17.6

  • 17.2

Tosses it up, on a good length, on middle. Sharmin Akhter steps out and wrists it to the left of deep square leg for only a single.

  • 17.1

  • .

All done in Manchester - The focus now shifts to Bristol for the second game of the day, where the Netherlands take on South Africa. The Dutch have won the toss and opted to bowl first. You can switch tabs and join us there for all the action. Cheers!

  • .

The skipper of India Women - Harmanpreet Kaur says that it is a good win. Adds that they wanted to finish it earlier, but still, they got the job done with 2-3 overs to spare. Mentions that fielding is very important, and they are trying to improve but they dropped a few catches in this game. She says they hope to put in a much better fielding performance in the next game. While the team boasts some of the best fielders around, occasional off days are part of the sport. She adds that the focus remains on working hard, taking plenty of catches in training, and ensuring they are in the right positions on the field. Looking ahead, she acknowledges that Australia are one of the toughest opponents they can face. With every game in the tournament carrying huge importance, she believes the team must produce its very best. She feels a win over Australia would provide a massive confidence boost, much like their victory in Navi Mumbai, which helped break barriers and instilled belief within the group.

  • .

The captain of Bangladesh Women - Nigar Sultana says they created plenty of chances but failed to take them and allowed India to take the game away. She feels they bowled well but reckons they finished 15-20 runs short with the bat. When asked about the chat during the second drinks break, she says that they believed anything was possible if they kept bowling in the right areas and created opportunities. Believes that success is not just about results and is pleased with how the team continues to grow day by day. Looking ahead, she says playing at Lord's will be a special occasion and hopes Bangladesh can create lasting memories there.

  • .

Time to hear from the two captains...

  • .

Recap of the first innings - Earlier, India were untidy in the field, to say the least, putting down as many as four catches in the first five overs of the innings. Bangladesh found boundaries hard to come by, but to their credit, they ran hard between the wickets to keep the scoreboard ticking. Useful contributions from Juairiya Ferdous, captain Nigar Sultana and the rest of the batting unit helped them battle their way to 136.

  • .

Not all smooth sailing - A strong start was important for India after their sloppy effort in the field, and Shafali Verma ensured there were no early nerves by getting off the blocks quickly and taking control of the chase. She was handed an early reprieve when Nigar Sultana dropped her on 4, and Bangladesh were made to pay. One wonders how differently the chase might have unfolded had the captain held on to that chance. After Shafali's dismissal, India's middle order made much harder work of the chase than they would have liked. There were signs of a batting unit still searching for confidence, particularly with some hesitant running between the wickets.

  • .

PLAYER OF THE MATCH - Shafali Verma has been given the award for her impressive knock of 53 runs from 34 balls. Shafali says that she is very happy with the way she batted in this game. Adds that she would be happier if she stayed unbeaten, but it was good to grab some runs. Mentions that she tried to put the bad balls away, but also rotated strike and played on the merit of the ball. Shafali shares that she was sad with the way she got out. Says that she has been bowling with new and old balls in the nets and credits skipper Harmanpreet Kaur for giving her good fields and showing confidence in her.

  • .

India get the job done - It was far from a convincing win, but India will gladly take the two points. Their attention now turns to a must-win clash against Australia. Bangladesh, meanwhile, deserve credit for the way they hung in the game after India flew out of the blocks. They must now beat South Africa in their final group game and hope India lose to Australia to have any chance of reaching the semifinals. Even then, their inferior net run rate leaves them with a mountain to climb.

  • 16.5

FOUR! Deepti Sharma hits the winning runs. INDIA WOMEN WIN BY 5 WICKETS! Nahida Akter delivers a full toss, around off, Deepti gets a bit across and whacks it to the deep mid-wicket fence for a boundary.

  • 16.4

Flighted, full and on off, Harmanpreet Kaur stays back and taps it to the off side. She sets off for the run, while Nahida Akter runs towards the ball as well. She has a shy at the bowler's end with Kaur having to hurry, but the ball misses the stumps. A direct hit would have had Kaur here.

  • 16.3

FOUR! Gets it away! A low full toss, on middle, there to be hit. Harmanpreet Kaur gets down on one knee and swipes it away to the deep square leg fence for a boundary. India Women are just one hit away from the win now.

  • 16.2

Flighted, full and outside off, Harmanpreet Kaur throws her hands at it but misses.

  • 16.1

Floated, short and outside off, Harmanpreet Kaur cuts it away straight to point.

  • 15.6

Overpitched and on middle, Harmanpreet Kaur eases it to long on for one more.

  • 15.5

On a length and on middle, Deepti Sharma clips it through mid-wicket for one.

  • .

    Deepti Sharma is in next.

  • 15.4

OUT! CAUGHT! Jemimah Rodrigues perishes trying to attack again. This is fuller and on middle, holds its line. Jemimah Rodrigues looks to slog it down the ground once again but gets a top edge this time. It lobs up towards short third, where Marufa Akter takes a dolly, moving to her right. Jemimah Rodrigues's gem of a knock comes to an end.

  • 15.3

FOUR! Jemimah Rodrigues is in a hurry now! Pitched up and on middle and leg, Rodrigues gets right underneath it, targets the straighter boundary and tonks it between long on and long off for another boundary. India Women need just 9 runs to win now.

  • 15.2

FOUR! Sloppy in the field! Touch fuller and on middle, Jemimah Rodrigues clears her front leg and hits through the line. She smacks it past the bowler and to the right of long off, where the fielder makes a meal of it and lets it through for a boundary.

  • 15.1

Hard length and on off, Harmanpreet Kaur steps across and nudges it through mid-wicket for a single. Kaur and Jemi almost ran into each other while taking that run.

  • 14.6

FOUR! 15 runs off the over. Rodrigues moves to the off side and Meghla tries to follow her with a length ball. Jemimah gets the width to work with and she slams it to the left of long off for a boundary. India need 18 more runs.

  • 14.5

Slows it down now, on a length, on off. Jemimah reaches out and goes inside out over cover for a couple of runs.

  • 14.4

SIX! That will ease a bit of pressure. Angled in, from around the wicket, a bit too full, on middle and leg. Rodrigues collapses her back knee and pumps it over mid on for a biggie.

  • 14.3

Stays on the shorter side, on off. Kaur chops it down wide of point and crosses over.

  • 14.2

Drops it short again, on off. Rodrigues cuts it away to deep point for one.

  • 14.1

Harmanpreet Kaur was gone had the throw hit. Short and on off. Kaur stands tall and dabs it in front of point. Rodrigues calls her through for a single but Kaur is late to respond. Harman had given up but the throw from the point fielder at the bowling end is well wide of the stumps.

  • .

DRINKS! Bangladesh Women have pulled things back in the last couple of overs, but one would feel that India Women are still ahead in this chase. With the experienced pair of Jemimah Rodrigues and Harmanpreet Kaur out there, India will be confident that they will get over the line, but Bangladesh Women almost broke this stand and know that a couple of quick wickets and things will get interesting here. Also, Sanjida Akter Meghla to bowl after the break.

  • 13.6

Floated up, on a good length, around off. Jemimah Rodrigues attempts the reverse sweep but fails to lay any bat on it.

  • 13.5

Very full, around the off stump. Jemimah jams it out to point.

  • 13.4

Keeps it full, on middle, this is driven through mid on for a single.
