Halftime show - We are in for a slightly longer-than-usual mid-innings break, with a halftime show lined up before the chase gets underway. The Caribbean is synonymous with music, dance and vibrant entertainment, and the crowd is now soaking in a lively performance as the entertainers take centre stage. That will be followed by a drone show, including a special tribute to the late Sir Garfield Sobers. We will be back with the chase shortly.
Late surge pushed Jamaica past 165 - The last four overs brought a dramatic shift as Jamaica’s lower-middle order went after the ABF bowling. Explosive cameos from Rovman Powell, Keemo Paul and Hassan Khan turned the innings on its head and dragged the team past the 165-mark to post 167 for 7 by the end of 20 overs. Jamaica cashed in on a late bowling meltdown at the death. Alzarri Joseph led the way with three wickets, while Jayden Seales and Usama Mir chipped in with one apiece to keep the batters tied down till the 16th over before the Jamaican innings exploded.
Falcons dominated the middle overs - Outside of that one expensive over, Antigua and Barbuda Falcons bowlers gave nothing away and controlled most of the innings. Jamaica struggled to break free against a disciplined attack and looked headed for a sub-par total, crawling to 113 for 4 by the 16th over.
Word from the Jamaica Kingsmen camp - Reeza Hendricks says he is enjoying his first taste of the CPL, having heard plenty of good things about the tournament. Believes that it was a slow start to their innings, which is why he looked to target Karima Gore in the 6th over, and it came off for him. Shares that they were targeting a total in the region of 165-170 and are pleased to have finished around that range, though he admits they will still need to bowl well to defend it. On the pitch, Hendricks says it has played a little two-paced, with some deliveries holding up while others have skidded through.
Rocky start, then Powerplay lift-off - Jamaica Kingsmen, after being asked to bat first, endured a shaky start, slipping to 26 for 1 after 5 overs. The innings was crying out for momentum, and it arrived in the 6th over. Reeza Hendricks took Karima Gore apart and extracted 28 runs from the over, instantly flipping the Powerplay pressure back onto the bowling side.
SIX! Banged away! Jamaica Kingsmen finish on 167/7. Springer dishes it out on a shortish length, on off. Khan is expecting that length, and he waits for it on the back foot before unleashing the pull over deep mid-wicket for a maximum.
OUT! KEEMO PAUL IS RUN OUT! Shamar varies his length as he goes into the wicket this time, outside off. Hassan walks across to the off side for the scoop but fails to lay any bat on it. Paul wants to sneak in a bye but Hassan is not interested and the former has to retreat. The keeper, Jahmar Hamilton is quick to get rid of the ball and lobs it towards the bowler. Springer gathers the ball, turns around and takes the bails off to find Keemo short of the crease. Jeavor Royal is the new man in but it will be Hassan Khan on strike for the last ball.
Very full, not allowing the batter to get under it. Paul hits it down to long on for the fourth single of the over. So far, so good from Springer.
Another well-executed yorker, on off. Hassan jams it out to mid off and hurries to the other end. A fumble by Jayden Seales but he recovers well to prevent the second run from being taken.
Pace off, on a length, near the tramline on off. Paul drags it down to long on for one.
Pitched up, on off. Hassan has a big swing at it. Gets an outside edge and it goes behind point for a single.

FOUR! Lovely use of the pace. The over goes for 16 runs despite the wicket of Rovman Powell. Joseph delivers it on a hard length, over middle. Paul stays back and just uses his wrists to shovel through square leg and in the gap for a four.
FOUR! Streaky but they all count. At 147.6 kph, bowled on a back of a length, on off. Paul has a hack across the line. It flies down to deep third off an outside edge. Tajinder Singh runs to his left but the ball stays out of his reach and bounces in front of the boundary cushions before going over.
Wide! Out comes the bumper but it is too high, on middle. Paul sways away. Jahmar Hamilton leaps up high to gather it.
SIX! High and long enough. Joseph angles into the right-hander, on a short of a good length. Paul swivels and gets under the ball to mow it over square leg. Not from the middle, but it sails over the fence wth the breeze.
On a hard length again, following the batter. Paul swings across for the pull but misses.
Keemo Paul walks out next in the middle.
OUT! TAKEN! First Andre Russell and now Rovman Powell, Alzarri Joseph has picked up two big wickets at a crucial stage in the game. At 146 kph, Joseph hammers the hard length, over middle. Powell is deep in the crease, expecting the short ball. He tries to flat bat it down the ground but he is rushed and the ball gets big on him. Slices it down the throat of long on, where Jayden Seales moves forward and slides to snaffle it.
Spears in the yorker, on middle. Hassan jams it out beside the strip on the off side for a single.
Low full toss, angled in at the sticks. Powell smears it behind square leg. Evin Lewis sprints and dives to his left to prevent the boundary. Two taken. 16 runs off the over.
Wide! Springer tries to keep it away from the batter's arc, on the shorter side, but this goes beyond the tramline. Powell lets it through.
Around the off pole, on a good length, pushed wide of cover for a single.
Pace off and on a shortish length, on off. Powell flat bats it on the bounce to long on. They cross.
SIX! Clean as a whistle. Springer misses his mark as he lands it right in the slot, on off. Powell takes a step back in the crease, clears the front leg and winds up before launching it over long on.
Bowls the slower bumper but this is wide on and too high as well. Powell lets it pass.
FOUR! Hit hard and wide enough. Springer goes searching for the yorker but fails to get it full enough, on off. Powell stays back and drills it back past the bowler. The mid off fielder stands no chance.

Just getting started - A last-ball finish on opening night and a memorable CPL debut for Arnos Vale. The skipper of Antigua & Barbuda Falcons - Fabian Allen says it was a tight game at the end, but a win is a win, and they are happy with a win in their first game. Fabian adds that Alzzari bowls a really crucial spell, and he feels really happy for how he bowled.
The captain of Jamaica Kingsmen - Rovman Powell feels that they were 5-10 runs short, adding that a score closer to 175 would have been a winning total on that surface. He says the batting group will reflect on where they can improve. Powell admits the bowling unit struggled to build sustained pressure and says, in hindsight, a few plans could have been better. He also praises Andre Russell and Keemo Paul for their spells and acknowledges that the fielding is an area the team needs to improve. Rovman says there were plenty of encouraging signs for what is a young team. He admits it was not their game to win for large parts of the chase but is pleased with the way the side fought back to take it down to the final ball.

PLAYER OF THE MATCH - Alzarri Joseph has been given the award for his figures of 3 for 34 from his 4 overs. He says that he tried to keep it simple and it worked in his favour. He adds that the pitch was a bit two-paced in nature, so he looked to put in an extra bit of effort while bowling short, and it worked for him as well. Alzarri praises Tajinder, saying that his knock was really good, and if he continues the same way, it will be great for the side. He closes by saying he had a bit of a break before CPL and is looking forward to taking more wickets through the season.
Earlier in the game - Patriots skipper Fabian Allen opted to bowl first, going against the trend at Arnos Vale, where teams batting first have generally enjoyed more success. Contributions from Reeza Hendricks and Rovman Powell laid the foundation for newcomers Jamaica Kingsmen before a couple of late cameos propelled them to a competitive 167. It was a mixed bowling effort from the Patriots. They conceded 22 extras and allowed the Kingsmen to finish strongly, leaking 54 runs in the final four overs after having kept the scoring in check through the middle phase.
Late scare, happy ending - The Kingsmen's bowling attack looked a little one-dimensional, with no one really able to trouble the batters or build sustained pressure. For the Falcons, the chase was effectively set up by the 64-run partnership between Tajinder Singh and Tim Robinson. Tajinder was the aggressor in the stand, keeping the scoreboard moving from the moment he arrived at the crease, while Robinson provided the ideal support as the Falcons stayed comfortably on course. Singh fell with the finish line in sight, and Hunain Shah struck late to create a few nerves in the Falcons camp, but they got over the line off the final ball, aided by a fumble from Rovman Powell.
Falcons do it the hard way - Third time proves to be the charm for the Falcons. Having featured on the opening night of the tournament in each of the past two seasons and ended up on the losing side both times, they so nearly let it slip but finally have an opening-night victory to celebrate. As for the newest entrants to the biggest party in sport, the Jamaica Kingsmen begin their CPL journey with a defeat. Rovman Powell and his side will take heart from the fact that they managed to drag the contest to the final ball.

Rovman Powell attacks the ball like a wolf, but he fails to gather this cleanly, and that allows the batters to complete the second run to win this contest. Had Rovman Powell gathered the ball and thrown it to the keeper at the first go, the Jamaica Kingsmen could have forced a Super Over.

UltraEdge shows a spike as the ball is next to the bat of Tajinder Singh, but his bat is striking the deck as well at that exact time. The third umpire is convinced that the ball grazed the face of the blade on its way to the keeper, and Tajinder Singh has to walk back. 9 runs needed off 9 balls.
FOUR! Dre Russ comes around the stumps, bowls a low full toss, on the pads, and Tajinder Singh gets inside the line of the ball and flicks this in the gap towards the cow corner region for a boundary.
