Welcome back for Sri Lanka's reply with the bat. Looking at the overhead conditions, don't think we would be getting all the overs in. The ground staff are gathering around the boundary ropes again as the two Sri Lankan openers make their way to the crease. Lahiru Udara is joined by Kamil Mishara, who is on his Test debut, at a very nervous time. Dhruv Jurel is the stand-in wicket-keeper for India in place of Pant. Mohammed Siraj is ready to steam in with the new Kookaburra with a couple of slips and a gully in place. Udara is on strike. Here we go again...

Jurel, the standout - We had a long break in play, leaving Dhruv Jurel stranded on 95, and after the resumption, he got stuck on 99 for a while. However, he managed to notch up a sensational ton and mustered up a few quick runs after that as well. Asitha Fernando was the most prolific bowler for Sri Lanka, but he couldn't get a five-wicket haul as India declared and he will have to settle for a four-fer. The pitch still looks good for batting but it might help the spinners a bit more than expected. The next hour or so is very crucial for the hosts, and if they see it through without losing more than a wicket or two, then they will have a shot at challenging for the game. Let's get back to the action, as Sri Lanka's reply is set to resume. Also, over the horizon, things are once again starting to get darker, so let's see how much action we do get late on Day 2.
10.27 am GMT (4.57 pm IST) - As soon as the 500-run mark comes up, Shubman Gill signals the declaration from the stands. It seems like that was their target from the start, and they want to have a crack at the Lankan batters late in the day. Sri Lanka will have mixed feelings while walking off the field, because even though their toil has come to an end, they will now have to dig in with the bat and see off Day 2.
FOUR! 500 COMES UP! Into the gap and Krishna gets off the mark! And immediately, Gill calls the batters in and INDIA HAVE DECLARED! Slower full toss, outside the off stump, Prasidh Krishna reaches out and drills it wide of the extra cover fielder for a boundary.
The rib-tickler, short and angled down leg. Prasidh Krishna sways out of the firing line.
NO BALL FOR OVERSTEPPING! Back of a length, angled at the hips. Jurel helps it behind to deep fine leg's rigth for a single.
SIX! THWACK! Short by Asitha, on top of middle and leg. Dhruv Jurel picks the length in a trice, stays well-balanced in the crease, and pulls it powerfully behind deep square leg for a huge six.
Proactive running! Full and on the stumps, tailing in a touch. Dhruv Jurel flicks it wide of deep mid-wicket and they hustle back for the second run. The throw from the deep is a bit wayward to the bowling end, far from Asitha, but it is backed up by the fielder at cover.
Nails the yorker just outside off, taking pace off, 113.6 kph. Jurel jams the bat down to squeeze it out, but the ball dips below his bat and rolls back to the keeper. The replay shows that it was actually a knuckle ball from Fernando.
Full at the toes, Jurel clips it through square leg but they do not run.
Sliding in on leg, Prasidh leans on and taps it across to square leg.
A full ball, floated up outside off, Krishna is beaten on the outside edge as the ball turns away.
Full and tossed up on the off stump, Krishna looks to slog it powerfully across the line but, the ball catches the toe end and rolls to mid off.
Around off, full, kept out to the off side.
Full around off, Prasidh pushes it to mid off.
Prasidh Krishna is the last batter in for India. Also, there are rays of sunshine through the few clouds still hovering in and around the stadium.
OUT! LBW! Siraj falls in an attempt to break free. Wicket number 2 for Prabath Jayasuriya. He drifts the ball in from around the stumps, landing it in thereabouts of fuller length. Mohammed Siraj moves a bit across to hammer it with a pull shot, but plays all over it as the ball skids through and hits the back pad. The Sri Lankans appeal as one and up goes the finger instantly. But Siraj reviews it straightaway and starts walking off even before the verdict is passed on. UltraEdge shows three reds and he continues his march back to the pavilion. India are 489/9.

A very tight single! For a moment, his heart must have been in his mouth, and had the throw hit, it would have been extremely close. But that risky single brought up a well-deserved CENTURY FOR DHRUV JUREL. This is his second Test hundred, and he received warm appreciation from his teammates in the dugout. Back to the ball. It is a fullish delivery outside off, Jurel leans into it and punches firmly to the right of mid off. The fielder charges in with three stumps to aim at the bowler’s end but misses as Jurel throws himself into a big dive. A lucky escape for him. The replay shows that the ball actually bounced over the stumps.
Another crisp drive, but for nothing. Fuller in length, on middle and leg, Jurel presents full face of the bat and drives it to mid on but finds the fielder there who is quick to attack the ball.
At 131.2 kph, this is bashed on a length, on top of middle. Dhruv Jurel hops back and nudges it to short mid-wicket on the bounce.
Back of a length, jagging in and staying low a touch. Dhruv Jurel negotiates well and knocks it to mid on.
An appeal for LBW, but Ahsan Raza is unmoved! That looked tight in real time, but the impact may be outside off here. In-anger from Prabath, full and around off, Mohammed Siraj draws the front foot out to block, but plays all over the line and is hit on the front pad. However, the UltraEdge confirms a slight murmur when the ball is next to the inside edge.
Provides more air, full and on off, spinning away. Siraj prods forward and taps the ball into covers using soft hands.
Full again, on middle, Siraj eases it straight back.
Drifting into the batter, full in length, Siraj plants the front foot across and pushes it back to the bowler.
Dishes a full ball, around off, Siraj blocks it solidly.
Full on off, slower through the air. Siraj presents full face to block.
Welcome back for Sri Lanka's second innings. Opening has been an issue for the hosts in recent times, and a good start will be crucial if they are to put India under any sort of pressure. It will be the left-hand, right-hand combination of Kamil Mishara and Lahiru Udara. Prasidh Krishna has the new cherry in hand and is raring to go. Udara to face. Let's go...

Looking ahead - India were not quite at their best with the ball yesterday and would have learned their lessons. A good night’s rest for the bowlers, along with the weather factor, would have played a part in Shubman Gill’s decision on whether to enforce the follow-on. Making the new ball count will be crucial for the tourists, as once it loses its hardness, it does not seem to have quite the same bite and zip off the surface. Refusal to fold - Sri Lanka fought hard and came close to avoiding the follow-on, but fell short. On the bright side, it could have been a lot worse had it not been for the heroic effort from Sonal Dinusha, with valuable support from the bowlers. The last 3 wickets added 117 runs, and if not for that resistance, Sri Lanka could have been in an even deeper hole. Earlier, it was Pasindu Sooriyabandara who showed plenty of promise with the bat in just his second Test innings, having made a golden duck in the previous Test as a concussion substitute. The early signs are encouraging, with Sri Lanka seemingly having found a couple of gems.
Decision time for India - India can enforce the follow-on if they wish to. What will Shubman Gill decide? The Indian openers are not rushing off the park, which they would have had the follow-on not been enforced. Right, we have the confirmation - INDIA HAVE ENFORCED THE FOLLOW-ON.
OUT! EDGED AND TAKEN! Saransh Jain ends up with a couple of wickets to his name, and Sri Lanka fail to avoid the follow-on. A lovely bit of flight on this one, bowling it in and around off and getting it to turn away. Sonal Dinusha lunges forward and looks to defend but doesn't quite get to the pitch and the outside edge is found. KL Rahul at slip takes an easy catch and Dinusha perishes after a monumental effort. Sri Lanka are bowled out for 290.

Ooh, proper turn and bounce! Jain slows it up, drifting it in towards the stumps. The ball pitches and turns away sharply. Dinusha ends up playing inside the lin.
Flighted delivery, nice and full on off. Sonal Dinusha gets a big stride in and blocks it off.

Full again, fired in outside off, trying to angle it in. Fernando leans across and smothers it on the full past the slip fielder.
A bit of an appeal for LBW, but that seemed to have come directly off the bat. Much fuller, drifted in with the arm towards middle. Asitha Fernando leans on to block, with bat and pad close to each other. The umpire turns down the appeal.
The field comes in with Asitha Fernando back on strike. There is a slip, a gully and a short leg.
Flatter delivery around off, stabbed away towards cover for a single.
Wide outside off again, turning it back onto the stumps. Dinusha stays back and cuts it down to backward point.

That's a huge single for Asitha Fernando. On leg stump, spins a bit as well. Fernando nudges it off the inside edge and down through the leg slip region for a single.
Smartly bowled by Prasidh, and it will be a maiden. A wide yorker, landing it close to the tramline, and Dinusha is unable to reach it.
Missed opportunity! Fuller in length, sliding it down the leg side. There's no one behind square on the leg side, but Sonal Dinusha fails to get any bat on the attempted flick.
Back of a length and outside off, a bit more room on offer, and this is steered away towards deep third. No single taken.
Just a lazy poke from Dinusha this time. Shorter in length, outside off and going straight on. Dinusha tries to run it fine but misses.
Good length, swinging it back in towards the off pole, Sonal Dinusha blocks it to the off side.
Back of a length on off, angling in, Dinusha gets right behind the line and makes the block.
This is pushed through by Jain, on a nagging length, on middle. Fernando hangs back to deal with it and just about manages to squeeze out an inside edge onto the pads.
Asitha Fernando is the last man in. How does Sonal Dinusha play the situation from here on? But first, Fernando has to see off the last ball of the over.
OUT! CAUGHT! There it is, a maiden Test wicket for Saransh Jain, and Lahiru Kumara will be livid with himself after fighting for so long and getting out like that. Jain tosses this one up on middle and leg, getting it to grip and turn. Kumara takes the front leg out and looks to hit against the spin but ends up skewing it off the outer half of the blade. Dhruv Jurel at cover-point dives to his right and pouches it just inches above the ground. Sri Lanka still need 16 runs to avoid the follow-on, and they have just one wicket left now.
Fuller in length, on middle, Kumara defends it off.

FOUR! Kumara decides to break free now. Risky shot but it pays off. Darted in towards middle and leg, Kumara clears the front leg and manages to hoick it over mid on for a boundary. Sri Lanka need 16 more to avoid the follow-on.
No run, the batter employs the reverse sweep but cannot gain anything from it.
Dinusha appears to be in some discomfort out there. Possibly a stiff back. And understandably, the volume of balls he has played so far in this heat is admirable as well as tormenting, but he has hung in there. The physio is out as he lies on the ground. After getting a massage on his lower back and hydrating himself, he is good to resume.
A bit of interest around the bat. Tossed up by Jadeja, on middle and leg. Kumara leans on to smother the spin but it is beaten by the turn. It pops up off the front pad and lobs well over the head of leg gully. It goes behind but the batters do not run.
Full and at the sticks, Lahiru has just watchfully blocked this out.
Short and on middle. Dinusha nurdles it square on the leg side and gets to the other end.
Was there a tickle? Slows it down, does Jadeja, short and spinning down leg. Dinusha misses out on the glance. Rishabh Pant moves to his right and fumbles to gather it.
Turning down the leg side again, Sonal offers no shot and tries to flick it away with his leg but misses.

Drops it way too short, on middle and leg. Kumara hangs back to defend.
Offers a lot of flight, full and outside the line of the leg stump. Kumara lets it be.
From around the wicket now, sliding across off, Kumara is solid in defence.
Turning in at the hips, on the shorter side. Kumara looks to tuck it away but misses and gets hit on the thigh pad.
Shorter and outside off, Kumara covers the off stump and makes the leave.
Slips in a full ball, around the leg stump. Sonal hangs low and gets to the pitch of the ball. Plays the reverse down to deep backward point. With this single, Sri Lanka's lead is now 150.

Attacking the front pad, full in length. Kumara gets his bat out in front and keeps it out.
